Summer Activities

Biking

Lovers of biking have 350 km of tracks to cover in the region. This could be a comfortable “recreational biking” along the Mur, or a steep slope upwards or downwards – tracks in the region cover most levels of difficulty. There are 6 biking paths taking off from the hotel, taking you over asphalt, forest tracks and gravel paths.

The region provides excellent cycling facilities to go along: rentals, service stations, biking maps and of course the Mur-valley biking railway all make it a comfortable experience for bikers.

Horse riding

Horse riding in this beautiful countryside is a fantastic recreation in itself, but you may also choose guided tours where you will have the chance to reach parts of the surroundings that will blow you away with their beauty. For this of course you will be provided with horses in excellent condition, and well-trained assistants. Spending an afternoon riding is a great experience for lovers of equestrian sports as well as for families with children. It is recommended to book in advance!

Golf

Golfclub Murau-Kreischberg is situated east of St. Lorenzen ob Murau, in the direction of Murau. The 18-hole golf course, opened in 2006, is surrounded on one side by the river Mur and on the other by green forests. Players can choose between two 9-hole games starting and ending at the club house. Several sand traps, lakes and an island green make it more difficult for golfers to complete the quest.

Tracking

There are many excursion and tracking options for visitors in and around Kreischberg. The surrounding mountains attract hikers with tracks of various difficulties. The valley of the river Mur has a special local climate and crystal clear air to make long walks exceptionally pleasant. Take a look at our online tracking map and choose between more than 50 tracks. You can also download a detailed description of the tracks along with their maps.

Tennis

TVB St. Georgen recreational centre is situated only a few minutes walk from the hotel, where lovers of tennis can live for their passion on four courts. You can enjoy your favourite sport in beautiful surroundings in excellent fresh air, but it is recommended to reserve the court in advance as tennis is a popular sport in Austria. Hotel personnel will be glad to assist with reservations.

Indoors Climbing

Since you are already in the mountains, it is worth trying out the life of mountaineers. You can test all of this in a hall indoors on nearly 600 m². The adventure offers nearly 100 different tracks with 5,000 handles and 13 peaks waiting to be climbed, where the young and the old can equally find the suitable level of difficulty.

Rafting

If you have never tried this beloved recreational sport, it is time to start “living dangerously”. Rafting became popular in Central Europe in the middle of the 1980s. Wild water enthusiasts glide down the river Mur in an inflatable boat. There are several different levels of difficulty, providing a great experience and beautiful natural surroundings to beginners as well.

Murtalerhof Inn awaits you with its rafting facilities from June to September twice a day between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  Tours leave with a minimum of six participants. Bathing suits, towels and a good spirit will need to be provided by you!

Nordic Walking

Nordic walking is the “dry” summer version of cross-country skiing. One of its great advantages is that it is easy to learn, so anyone can quickly utilize the fitness possibilities inherent in the sport. Another advantage of Nordic walking is that it is considered an intensive and efficient form of sport even at a relatively low pulse rate.

Red Bull Ring

The renewed Austrian race course at Spielberg was officially opened on 15 May 2011. The track at Zeltweg was used to be known as Österreichring, then A1-Ring, only to be called Red Bull Ring these days on account of the latest investors. After the reconstruction, the energy drink company constructed an entire recreational centre so it is not only motor sport fans who will find activities of interest here.

Apart from trying go-cart, motor cycling, motocross, off-roading and testing KTM X-Bow race cars, you can also test your driving skills at the court in the Driving Center. Those who find these activities too noisy can go hiking in the mountains, cycling or play golf - because all these possibilities are at your fingertips here! The greatest challenge each year for the FIA Level 1 facility is the DTM race on the first weekend of June, followed by the Porsche Cup, KTM races, Ducati speed weekends and other exciting events throughout the summer.

Fishing

When you visit us you don’t need to leave your fishing rod at home! There are fishing opportunities at the river Mur in a 2.5 kilometre river section and also at the St. Georgen levee. You can catch river and rainbow trouts and graylings.
